What to include

Your Windows version, whether you're on Free or Premium, and what you expected to happen versus what did. Screenshots help more than descriptions.

2

Diagnostics bundle

For scan or crash issues, open Settings → Diagnostics → Save support bundle and attach the file. It contains logs only — never your file names — and the app shows you the contents first.

Security reports

Found a vulnerability? Email the same address with SECURITY in the subject line and we'll prioritise it. Please give us a reasonable window to fix before disclosing publicly.

Billing, refunds and receipts follow the purchase route Store purchases live in your Microsoft account order history. Card purchases live in the Polar receipt flow, and support can help you find the right path. Anything about how the app behaves, though, is ours: email us.

Try this first

The handful of things that resolve most reports.

Expected on a fresh install — comparisons need at least two measurements. Run a manual scan, wait for the next scheduled one, and the comparison view unlocks.

If a day passes with still only one point, check that background snapshots are enabled in Settings → Startup, and that Windows hasn't disabled DiskSpace under Task Manager → Startup apps.

The first scan of a large mechanical hard drive can take a while, because every folder has to be visited once. Later scans are much faster.

Scanning runs at low I/O priority on purpose, so it yields to whatever else you're doing — if the PC is busy, the scan politely takes longer. You can leave it running in the background or pause it and resume when idle.

Small differences are normal and usually come down to one of these:

  • Inaccessible folders — some system folders can't be read without administrator rights; the scan summary tells you how many were skipped
  • Size vs size-on-disk — compressed and sparse files occupy less than their nominal size
  • Cloud-only files — OneDrive placeholders count their full size but occupy almost nothing locally
  • Timing — the snapshot is from when the scan ran, not this second

Work through these in order:

  • Confirm the Microsoft Store app is signed in to the same Microsoft account you purchased with
  • Open Settings → Premium → Refresh licence
  • Restart DiskSpace completely (quit from the tray icon, not just close the window)
  • If you're offline, connect once so Windows can confirm the purchase

Still Free? Email us with the Microsoft account email used for the purchase and we'll help sort it out.

Settings → Diagnostics → Delete all history removes the local database and starts over. Uninstalling DiskSpace does the same thing.

Since nothing is ever uploaded, deleting locally is genuinely deleting — there's no copy anywhere else.
